GRIS GRIS (Public Beach)
Make the most of your trip to Mauritius and visit Gris Gris, one of the most beautiful places and spectacular sights on this tropical island near Souillac village. Our travel guide includes tips on how to get to the area, safety tips, tips on the best things to do, and what to expect. Unfortunately, Gris Gris is the only place in Mauritius where swimming is highly discouraged for amateurs and professionals, strong currents and huge waves that break on this part of the island make the sea totally impracticable. Do not be fooled by this beautiful beach with golden sand and its azure sea, Gris Gris is an extremely dangerous beach!
* ONLY visit is required.
A rock outcropping into sea along the south coast. The waves break directly against the rock – there is no reef protecting the coast in this area – and often send up a good spray during big swells. La Roche Qui Pleure is a well known site near Gris-Gris Beach with signs in the area directing you there.
*Avoid getting too close to the cliffs edge if you wish to see more of Mauritius.
Lunch at Rochester Restaurant Original (HALAL sea food):
Rochester Restaurant is one of the original authentic and food spot places where it is famous for Mauritian and Tourists to stopover and taste the cuisine of this particular Restaurant which is set in the Savanne district of Mauritius.
A must tourist place to discover the local cuisine cooked by local resident with fresh seafood and garden vegetables. Most products are chemical free (Bio) & the fresh seafoods is from the Lagoon at Souillac in Mauritius & it is 20 mins drive to the famous Rochester Falls & 15 mins drive to Gris Gris public beach. Which has been in the spotlight for being featured for shooting in many Bollywood movies. One of its main features is the unique and dramatic cliff face which has been transformed into jagged rectangular blocks by the force of powerful water over the past hundreds years.
The cascading waters tumble from a height of 10 meters through the rocky beds of the Savanne River. Mesmerizing as it may seem, this spectacular sight serves as an ideal spot for a quick refreshing plunge or a small picnic break.
The breathtaking scenery, cascading waterfalls, pools of clear water, and luxuriant greeneries surrounding the region, makes it a wonderful site to see and a relaxing experience. You might also meet some daring and adventurous locals who are willing to jump from high above the cliffs to the pool of water which can be fatal, yet these are daring experts.
BEL OMBRE:
Set on Mauritius’ wilder, less developed southern coastline, Bel Ombre is the perfect destination for nature-loving travellers who prefer unspoiled beauty to shops, restaurants and bars. Beaches here are some of the most picturesque on the whole island, and the backdrop of Le Morne Brabant lends a touch of drama to an idyllic peninsula. Bel-Ombre is a village in Mauritius located in Savanne District in the south of Mauritius and is located around 50km or 1 hour drive from the Capital, Port-Louis and is around 40km and 40mins drive from the International Airport.
RIVIERE DES GALLETS:
FREE ENTRANCE
Riviere des Galets is a rather unique beach found in the south of Mauritius, owing to its peculiar setting. Sand is barely visible to completely absent on this beach, but instead the location is covered with tiny pebbles which have turned smooth with the constant action of the waves crashing on them. Although the waters are not suitable for swimming, the beach is a must visit for the sheer calming beauty of the strong waves crashing on the pebbly beach.
At just 2 m from the beach, lies Ilot Sanchot, which actually is an islet of its own but is so close to land that it is easily accessible by foot during low tide with the water barely reaching one’s knees. The islet offers a perfect point of view of the majestic ocean waves.
MACONDE:
FREE ENTRANCE
Pinpointing this little gem located on the South West coast of the island because it is truly worth a visit or two! Once there, let your mind drift away in the stunning views it offers – a real feast for the eyes! The Macondé Point is part of one of the most scenic route of Mauritius. In Mauritius’ history, the Macondé Rock served as a shelter for slaves who managed somehow to run away from their masters; nowadays it does not serve any other purpose than being one of the top photo spot for tourists to stop by while on their road trips to the south of the island.
It is so popular that you might need to expect a crowd on top of the rock; especially during the weekends but we can’t blame anyone as the unobstructed view wins everyone’s heart! You’ll be amazed by how the calming waters of the West coast meet and merge with the wilderness of the south coast.
* The earlier the better- avoid crowds and photo-bombings
SHOPPING RUISSEAU CREOLE:
